Return to Exchequer

Untitled

It’s that time of year again – time for the Annual Exchequer Mountain Biking Event! I’m so excited! This is going to be my fourth year of mountain bike racing with the Exchequer Extravaganza – have you heard of them?

As a mountain biking fanatic, Exchequer is a major event for me and those in the mountain biking community. I spend weeks training for it, and of course the day itself goes by so fast! This will be my fourth time participating, with my absolute favorite year being the race in 2021.

In 2021 I was still very much a beginner, even though I managed to place 3rd! After that race, it was hard to decide if, in the 2022 race, I should go for the same level again -at  2 laps – or go for the Expert level, which has 3 laps. Last year I also placed at the Sport level, which is good, but I know I can do better! That experience helped me learn a ton about myself as a mountain biker, and with this new knowledge I hope to reach the Expert level. I’d have to do all three laps at 3k feet and 18 miles, but I know I can do it! Year four is going to be my year!

So I wanna talk more about the race itself, and why it’s so important to mountain bikers, and the perks of taking part in the race – as well as following the podcasts!

Exchequer Park a Trailblazing Mountain Bike Park

So if you don’t know, Exchequer is a bike park located in gorgeous Yosemite National Park. This park has HUNDREDS of acres of different kinds of terrain. There’s plains, sandy paths, yellowgrass beachsides, rocky areas and so much more. It’s a mountain biker’s dream!

And on top of the totally unique pathways, there’s also the height! There’s a 900-foot difference between the lowest point and the highest point of Exchequer – talk about getting some air! And plus, local mountain bikers are always dedicated some volunteer hours toward creating even more paths, upkeep existing trails, and overall keep the park usable and safe for years to come.

How Exchequer Mountain Bikers Can Avoid Rough Terrain

The Exchequer podcasts are great tools for mountain bikers looking to learn more about the bike park, and what they can expect from their first trip. Not only will you have the latest news, but you’ll also be able to narrow down which paths are best for you, what the terrain really is like, how you can prepare, and so much more!

It’s important to remember that mountain biking is always a physically demanding activity, so you should only go when you’re ready! Prepare, practice, do less-intense trails first and work your way up to Exchequer. You don’t jump into the deep end of the pool when you’re learning to swim, so you shouldn’t start with a high-intensity bike path.

Why It’s an Annual Must-Do, Despite the Gnarly Terrain!

So on top of Exchequer being such a unique place to bike at, it can be a major accomplishment that you can carry in your heart for years to come if you complete the challenge!

But on top of how absolutely amazing it is to complete, it’s also a great way to get more deeply in touch with the mountain biking community. The mountain biking community is such a supportive, sweet community full of people from all walks of life who just want to share their love for high-intensity biking on scenic mountain trails. If you take part in this year’s events, you’re 100% sure to walk away with lifelong friends!
